Active acne infections must first be brought under control before we consider treatment of acne scars.
“Ice Pick” scars are narrow and deep. Excellent results are often achieved with a technique performed in the office under local anesthesia. The scar is removed and a fine suture used to close the hole. The deep scar is gone and a flat fine scar takes its place. This scar is easy to cover with makeup and does not cast a shadow.
A very different kind of scar is often seen on the cheek. You will see an example three rows down in a red circle. These are call “box car” or “macular” scars. They are broad and almost dish shaped. These are best treated by a technique published by Dr. Sadove called ‘subcision’ with filling from below. It gives excellent results.
