With the turn of each new year, we’re bombarded by ads that promise to help create a “new you”, but we think this approach is wrong. Many patients come in for consultations with pictures, not of celebrities, but rather of themselves 10-20 years ago. They want to look the way they remember themselves in their prime; younger and more refreshed, not like a different person.
As we age, skin starts to lose its elasticity, lines & wrinkles start to appear and we begin to not recognize the person in the mirror. While it’s natural to want to return to the you you knew, most patients are afraid of looking “over done”. For many, Facelift is a scary word, and not everyone is ready to take that leap, but a Mini Facelift could be a great option. SO WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?
A Full Facelift eliminates significant amounts of loose skin folds in the neck and cheeks, and tightens up the appearance of wrinkles in the face in general. A Mini Facelift reduces mild to moderate sagging & wrinkles around the cheeks, jowls and jawline only. It does not target the neck, forehead or eyes.
IS THIS PROCEDURE RIGHT FOR ME?
Good candidates are generally 40-60 years of age, in good health, and have mild to moderate skin laxity in the cheek/mid-face and the appearance of jowls are becoming visible. A comprehensive consultation will help us determine if this is the best approach to helping you achieve your goals.
WHAT ABOUT THE AREAS THAT ARE NOT ADDRESSED?
While some tightening of the neck can be achieved with a Mini Facelift, any further change required may be achieved with a little liposuction in the office and can be performed at the same time. If upper lids have excess skin, an upper lid reduction is a perfect compliment to a Mini Facelift and can also be done at the same time. If minor wrinkles in the upper face are present, these can be easily addressed with a neuromodulator such as Botox® or Jeuveau®.
