Axillary Hyperhidrosis, or excessive underarm sweating, is an uncontrollable, and often embarrassing, problem that affects about 4 million people in the United States

If you haven’t lived with the daily struggles of this condition, you may ask “what’s the big deal?”  “This condition is a not a mild nuisance experienced by a few people,” , according to Dee Anna Glaser, M.D., professor of dermatology at Saint Louis University, and one of the founding Board of Directors members of the International Hyperhidrosis Society. “This is a big problem for many people.” This type of excessive sweating can disrupt normal daily activities and result in emotional, psychological, occupational, social and physical impairment.

There are several different treatment options available to reduce the amount of sweat produced in this area, but these treatments can be costly and need to be repeated in the future. Liposuction is a more permanent, single treatment option to this common problem.

During liposuction, a small tube is used to suction out the superficial layer of fat in the axxilary (armpit) region where the sweat glands are located. When the glands are removed or damaged, they can no longer produce sweat. This procedure is performed in-office under local anesthesia with very little downtime. Patients typically experience minimal soreness lasting up to a week. During this time, some arm activity, such as sports or lifting overhead, may be limited, but patients should be able to resume normal daily activities in just a few days.

Rachel, a patient who recently underwent the STOP Sweat procedure with Dr.sadove reported that she experienced a dramatic reduction in axillary sweat right away. She also shared with us how significantly Hyper Hydrosis was affecting her daily life, “I always wore black, not because I wanted to, but so you couldn’t tell that my shirt was wet. Now I can wear whatever I want”.
